Japanese Birdseye Maple Veneer Enamel Wood Chest Box Trinket Sewing Jewelry Vtg There are 58 photos of the item below. — The photos load incrementally below depending on your connection, please allow a few seconds for the photos to appear — Small 6-drawer chest measures 7-3/4″ wide, 9-5/8″ tall (not counting the top handle) and 4 deep. Stamped Made in Japan on the underside. Each drawer has an inside dimension of 3″ wide, 3-1/4″ deep and 2-3/8 tall. Notice the back two seams of the chest, you can see a small separation gap between the top and bottom corner braces with the seam on the right being flush in the middle area and separating in the top and bottom areas. The chest is solid, there is no loose panels or play in the structure. Notice the drawer edges are not flush with the front face. I noted a little minor warping of the front drawer panels, in some cases from the side of the drawer you can see the enamel paint cracked along the seam where the front panel separated a little. All of the drawers open and close without getting stuck (some open and close more smoothly than others but none are difficult or problematic, they may just have more resistance when sliding). The top right drawer face has a veneer chip on the left front edge There is a veneer crack on the right front edge between the top right and middle right drawers. A few small veneer nicks or chips on the left edge of the left middle drawer face. Looking at the veneer at an angle to the light shows the veneer condition more plainly. You can see and feel small finish blemishes, tiny cracks etc corresponding to the grain and pattern of the wood such as around the small birdseye grain etc. One interesting thing is all the little small perfect circles you see over all the surfaces, it took a moment to realize these were cut to remove knot hole blemishes in the veneer and replaced by a similar tone or grain pattern veneer disc. Ou can see there is some enamel paint chipping on some edges inside the drawer edges. One drawer has some small red wax drops that I didn’t remove they just come right off with your fingernail, that same drawer has a few lightened patches on the outside right panel. Bottom of cabinet has black paint chipping and loss. Drawers have a green enamel paint coating on the inside and outside. Corners are plated brass or bronze, you can see the plating loss on the braces edges with the brass or bronze showing through and with scratches and wear to the plating on the braces.
