Spectacular antique European Napoleon III or Victorian era 10 3/4 jewelry box or desk casket, unique octagonal shaping in carved oak with ornate silver or nickel plated appliques including large lid cartouche with intricate forest & horses or stallions scene! Visually, this one is simply magnificent. Dark toned oak construction and the extensive silver finished pressed brass or bronze appliques contrast beautifully! A varitable treasure chest, wouldn’t you say? A huge oval medallion on the lid features three wild horses or stallions, surrounded by a highly intricate & detailed array of trees and foliage. If you look closely, there are two small cats, lions or tigers I would imagine. Original pale blue silk or satin interior lining and this one has a working lock with old skeleton key. A magnificent decorative accent, don’t miss it! I’ve shown enlarged, close-up photos so peruse and enjoy. There are some small missing sections of the metal appliques (all visible in the images) and one or two of the legs have a bit of bending but the box sits level with no wobbling. Some staining and/or fading to the interior lining. There is also some wear to the silvered finish in places, most notable to the figural medallion on top with the gold or coppery colored metal showing. See pictures for all measurements.
