Oak Machinist Toolbox Jewelry Box. Great for Men or Women The Pilliod Lumber Company of Swanton, Ohio was established by T. In addition to their “Built for Service” line of tool chests “for Machinists, Carpenters, Salesmen, Repairmen and Fishermen, ” they made jewelry boxes, silverware chests and, during the first World War, boxes for military medals. They started their line of Machinist Tool Cases in 1909. Pilliod discontinued their own line of tool cases and chests in 1926. THis case was made sometime from 1896 to 1926. This is a tool case that originally had a front door that lifted out then flat and slid under the bottom drawer (that is why there is a slight space under the bottom drawer) At some point, the front door was removed and the exterior sides painted black to make a jewelry case. Oak drawers and hardware are still in very nice condition and have been lined with black felt. Handle has been reinforced at some time in the past with black tape as the original handle is leather and usually these parts saw a lot of wear. Box is in great overall shape and ready to go!
