Interestingly unique best describes this piece of Folk-Tramp Art certainly hand-made over months or years by a Prison Inmate or Railroad Hobo using single matchsticks. What he constructed is a dresser or jewelry box of the highest quality and superb craftsmanship. The design is simple and attractive measuring 8 1/2″ wide, 6 3/4″ deep and standing 3 3/4 high. The interior is covered with red satin fabric while the the hinges have what appears to be turquoise beads. When opening the top it rests upon a piece of matchstick made to support the lid in an upright position. The maker had to use hundred of matchsticks in the making this box. The surface is smooth and would adorn anyone’s dresser if used today. The entire dresser box is fitted with matchsticks and this is one of the most unique tramp or prison art objects I’ve come across in over 50 years of collecting.
