This box is by the acclaimed English maker Edwards (search antique boxes, Edwards) In keeping with original building traditions I re make the interiors with new leather and silk, I French polish the case in the traditional method of grain filling through multiple coats of hand applied shellac. Measuring 12-1/2″ x 9″ x 6 this box is in beautifully grained Brazilian Rosewood veneer over a Mahogany case, has inset brass side handles and uses a dismantled and lubricated J Bramah lock and key as well as the Edwards patent concealed hinges. The pleated silk covered back panel has a marked letter wallet (this is original to this box) behind it and it’s accessible by pushing a hidden clasp and pulling the panel forward. This box is very old so will have very minor marks commensurate with age that could not be removed the only noticeable on is a slight misalignment of the mitered veneer on the main box tops edge, left side picture four. As a professional woodworker, Luthier, craftsman I utilize five decades of experience in order to tie together all the various aspects of wood, metal, leatherwork, fabrics and finishing into these classic boxes.
