A quality carved large rare black forest jewellery box. This box was almost certainly carved by Jakob Abplanalp. Jakob was well known for carving cherubs and wonderful relief work. Anyone familiar with his work will recognise this as one of his pieces. This box is carved from pear or cherry wood and has a lovely honey tone & beautiful patination. The cherub is laying on a leopard skin rug but the photos do not capture this well. A wonderful fine piece for the collectors. I also have other black forest carvings for sale. This black forest box is in great condition for its age. There is some minor wood shrinkage to a few of the joints.
