Charming antique Black Forest hand carved 5.5 wide jewelry casket, a lovely little decorative box with flowers, foliage and Animalier style game or song bird on top! The old Swiss carvers were so masterful, apprenticed since a young age, and the work is thrilling to see today. This casket would have likely been a treasured souvenir of someone’s Grand Tour. It is dainty, at the feet it’s 5.5″ wide and 3.75″ front to back, 4 7/8 tall when closed. Very good condition for age and type. The bird is superb, no breaks to tail and even the beak is fine, with just tiny’marks’ to top of head that appear to be to the finish only. The interior is in great shape also, no stains, no odors, and seems to have never held anything that would disrupt the nap, even. A nice royal to navy blue velvet with piping in the base. The legs/feet are all fully intact (with just a chip to tip of front left foot) and, as noted, it has a working lock but no key. We’re easy to deal with. You are very important!
