Any slight veneer movements are always totally stabilised. Wherever possible we endeavour to retain the original interiors and try not to over-modernise. Often, however, interiors are in. Un-usable and un-saleable states so we refurbish as sympathetically as possible thereby keeping the integrity of the box. We also try not to over-restore box exteriors thereby taking away the character. Whilst we make every endeavour to ensure the information we give is accurate, we can only work within the limits of provenance available and our own experience and expertise. THIS IS A GEORGE IV. FIGURED ROSEWOOD SARCOPHAGUS SHAPED BOX ON FLAT BUN FEET. A VERY FINE PERIOD PIECE WITH THE ORIGINAL HANDLES. The left hand side one stands slightly proud but is totally secure. (approx 188 years old). THE BOX HAS MOTHER-OF-PEARL ROUNDELS WITH PEWTER STRINGING. TO THE TOP OF THE BOX IS A RECTANGULAR PANEL BORDERED BY DECORATIVE MOULDING. THE CARTOUCHE IS MOTHER-OF-PEARL AND ROSEWOOD DEPICTING A VASE AND FLOWERS. THE KEY ESCUTCHEON IS MOTHER-OF-PEARL. THE COMPARTMENTALISED LIFT-OUT TRAY IS THE ORIGINAL. AND THE BOX AND TRAY HAVE BEEN LINED IN GEORGIAN RED ART PAPER. THE LID INTERIOR HAS THE ORIGINAL BURGUNDY LEATHER FRAME TOOLED IN GOLD WITH. THE ORIGINAL RUCHED SILK PANEL WITH THE ORIGINAL CATCH. THE PULL-DOWN LETTER SLOT HAS BEEN REFURBISHED WITH STRONG LINEN HINGES WHICH ARE FAR MORE DURABLE THAN THE PAPER ONES WHICH WERE OFTEN USED BY SOME MAKERS IN THE 1800s. THE HINGES ARE THE ORIGINAL’STOP’ HINGES. THE LOCK IS ORIGINAL WITH ORIGINAL KEY WHICH IS A REAL BONUS. IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. THE BASE COVERING IS THE ORIGINAL PAPER ONE WHICH WE DECIDED TO LEAVE.
