Beautiful antique wooden box with three functions – sewing jewellery and a drawer at the base which pulls out to reveal a writing slope. The box measures approx 12×8.5 inches and is 6 inches high. The top has an ornate mother of pearl pattern. Inside the lid is the makers label & a folder for documents when this is closed there is a pink plaited type silk surrounded with a gold tooled leather trim. The top layer is to hold sewing items including two small fitted books for needles. The second layer is for jewellery with compartments including one for rings. As already said the bottom drawer pulls out to reveal the writing slope. The tray fabric is a pink floral patterned silk. This is UNCLEANED as found and I will now list the problems. The mother of pearl on the lid is dull and when rubbed with finger nail its like there is a very thin varnish which flakes off, a couple of cracks in the lid, a small tear in the tooled leather trim in lid at bottom left corner, the keys look original and work but the escutcheons around the keyholes are missing, the top layer for sewing items was obviously the most used so there is damage to the silk/ paper & it is grubby compared to the next layer for jewellery. The velvet on the writing slope is a darker colour and has marks/ stains- no ink bottles- left bottom on the drawer there is a small piece of stringing missing. The fabric on the base is worn. I have tried to give an honest description of the box but it is still a beautiful item and with some TLC could be stunning. Weighs over 2.7kg.
