The box measures approx 12 inches (305mm) wide, by 9 inches (230mm) deep, by 5 inches (125mm) tall and is made from beautiful polished, flame mahogany (So called beacause the figuring in the wood resembles burning flames). Expensive in its day, this timber was reserved for top quality pieces. The patterning in the timber is superb! The box has drop ring handles at either side. And a quilted, “pincushion” lining. It opens and closes without issue. Inside there is a mahogany tray, fitted to hold twenty cotton reels, with divisions for needlework tools either side of a central, lidded compartment. This lifts out to reveal a further compartment in the base. It is in very good, antique condition, with light wear in keeping with its great age, but no major damage, repairs, or woodworm. This beautiful antique box is a fine example of its type and it would make a great addition to any collection. Please see the photos for condition and type.
