Lovely early Victorian box in beautiful figured rosewood profusely inlaid with hand cut mother of pearl foliate inlay and also mother of pearl inlay to the lid cartouche and the lock escutcheon both embelished with iridescent abalone shell. The box has its original brass stop hinges, fully working lock and a tasseled key. The interior is fitted in shades of cerise and has a lift out jewellery tray with several divided sections including a ring holder slot and a central lidded compartment trimmed in cerise satin with pearl handle, below the tray is a generous storage area finished in matching colour. The under lid liner is in deep padded and studded cerise satin. At the base the box is finished with traditional green burlap. This very pretty box with exceptional inlay has been professionally and sympathetically restored to a high standard and with a lovely refurbished interior is now ideal for your jewellery items or other precious keepsakes.
