This lovely box has the unique feature of a center medallion on the lid with a neo classical head in the center. The head is painted on porcelain and mounted in a mahogany round frame. The frame is attached to the lid. The box has many other interesting features: is has a combination of olive wood and mahogany on all four sides and the top, the bottom has four small bun feet. The box has decorative nails on four corners and three sides (the back does not have them) and an interesting embellishment on the front above the key escutcheon. The inside has the original tan silk lining in the top and a later issue felt in the bottom in a similar color. The box is in very good condition with these signs of age: one of the decorative nails is missing and there are a few scuffs around the top rim of the box.
