Beautifully figured antique walnut vanity box which has been carefully restored and french polished using traditional methods. The box has a really beautiful grain to the walnut and also features a mother of pearl escutcheon and central cartouche. The inside of the box has been lined with a luxurious plush material. I have also made a bespoke burr walnut tray with removable dividers which lifts out to reveal a compartment underneath. At the rear of the box there are 5 compartments which each house a glass bottle, 2 with stoppers (possibly scent bottles) and 3 with white metal (tarnished) lids. The tarnishing is actually really lovely and has given the lids an almost copper/rose gold colour. Behind the bottles is a button. Once depressed a secret drawer pops out from the front of the box. Again this has been lined but left empty so that you can use it to store whatever you wish, documents, keepsakes, jewellery, etc. Age is approx 1880s. The box comes with a working lock and key. The approx dimensions of the box are 11.75″ x 8.75 “x 6.75. Please study the pictures carefully as they constitute part of the description.
