This is such a gorgeous box!! It’s from the Edwardian era (early 20th century, but perhaps as late as 1920), and looks to have been designed for jewelry. It’s tulipwood and kingwood veneers over a secondary wood, and is just beautiful. I love the cross banding around the edges! The inside is lined with red silk that is in great condition. There are a few tiny marks here and there, typical of something of this age, but nothing overtly noticeable. The most noticeable thing are some marks along the back, inside edge of the lid near the hinges. It almost looks as if the lid were closed with something inside, that made some impressions in the wood. But this is on the inside and does not detract at all. The box is large, measuring 12.25″ wide, by 9″ high by a little over 8.25 deep. It would be an absolutely stunning addition to any fine box collection. We would not be letting it go if we were not completely out of display space. This box deserves to be loved and displayed. Track Page Views With. Auctiva’s FREE Counter.
