Charming antique 19th century hand carved Black Forest jewelry box. Carved from solid wood to resemble a fallen log in the forest, surrounded by foliage. The lid covered with oak leaves and acorns, with a beetle walking along. Beautiful detail throughout, supplementary texture to the wood surface to mimic the look of knotty bark. Hidden in the wood is a lock (retains a working key). The hinged lid opening to reveal a red velvet lined interior. A lovely whimsical piece of exquisite artistry, a testament to the skilled hand of the carver. In overall good antique condition. A chip or two to a leaf tip, hidden among the intricate carving. One leaf was neatly and tightly reattached at one point and is hardly visible. Adding to the old world charm of this piece are some old worm holes. Measures 8″ length x 4 7/8″ deep x 3 3/4 height.
